Alto is a small unincorporated community situated on Pratt Lake Creek. Alto was founded by David N. Skidmore in 1845 and served as a station on the Detriot, Grand Rapids, and Western Railroad. It’s name is a result of being the highest point of land along the railroad between Grand Rapids and Detroit. Today and annual Alto Harvest Festival is held in September, a tradition that started in the 70/80s.
